Benedict A. Cucinella School

Cucinella Weekly Wrap Up #3

Week of September 9, 2024

This week marked our first full week of the school year! Both students and staff are steadily settling into classroom routines, and we're diving into the flow of teaching and learning. While saying goodbye to summer can be bittersweet, it's uplifting to see the school buzzing with enthusiastic students, fully engaged in their learning journey.

We're also excited to see our "Bucket Filling" initiative successfully taking off! It's been heartwarming to witness students around the building performing acts of kindness, supporting one another, and truly embracing the spirit of filling each other's buckets. The positive energy is contagious, and it’s a wonderful way to kick off the year!

Monday night, our PTO hosted their first general membership meeting, along with the Homeroom Parent Volunteer Meeting. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces returning, as well as new faces eager to get involved for the first time. The energy in the room was fantastic, with parents and volunteers excited to contribute to the many events and initiatives that make our school such a special place. We're grateful for the dedication and enthusiasm of our PTO and the broader parent community—they truly help enhance the experience for all our students!

Wednesday morning, our students and staff observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the events of September 11th. It was a time for reflection and unity as we honored the lives lost and the heroes who emerged on that tragic day. This solemn moment allowed us to come together as a community and reflect on the importance of kindness, resilience, and peace.

Wednesday evening's Back to School Night was a great success! It was wonderful to see so many parents and guardians in attendance, eager to connect with our teachers and learn more about the exciting year ahead. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with you and share insights into our school's exciting plans for the year ahead. We hope you found the presentations informative, and that you were able to meet your child's dedicated teachers. Your active participation on Back to School Night reinforces our commitment to building a strong partnership between home and school. Together, we will continue to create a nurturing and enriching educational experience for your child. If you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out. We look forward to working together to make this school year a truly memorable one for our students. Thank you for being part of our wonderful Cucinella community!

We closed out the week with the PTO's Family Fun Night! A huge thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a memorable evening. Special thanks to our amazing volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to ensure the event was a success. Your support and enthusiasm truly made the night one to remember.

Lastly, we wanted to acknowledge our "Bucket Fillers" of the week. Each week students earn slips for their good deeds and are entered into a raffle to win prizes and acknowledgments from the school community. These students were caught demonstrating our core values and were recognized for their actions.

⭐New Maschio's Lunch Program⭐

Maschio's Allergy Management-

The following information is from the Maschio's Website https://maschiofood.com/food-allergy-management/

Maschio’s provides students who are identified with life-threatening food allergies a customized menu created by staff registered dietitians. Once the student’s physician submits a completed Maschio’s medical statement form, one of our registered dietitians will create a customized menu and provide the specific manufacturer ingredient labels for the parent/guardian to review and approve. Following parental/guardian approval, Maschio’s will put in place all necessary safeguards for that student’s meal including special meal handling procedures and cross-contamination prevention training with the cafeteria manager and cafeteria staff. Contact Lorraine Kunick, MPH, RDN lkunick@maschiofood.com for information regarding customized menus.

Bus Conduct🚌

It is important that we enforce Bus Safety Rules in order to create a safe and orderly environment and prevent accidents and injuries. Please reinforce the following bus safety rules with your child(ren):

1. Follow the directions of your driver the first time.

2. Stay seated in your assigned seat facing forward, belt on, with your personal belongings in your lap or at your feet.

3. Keep your arms, legs and head inside the window and out of the aisle.

4. Keep your bus safe & clean (leave food & drinks secured in your backpack).

5. Speak quietly (indoor voices), use technology appropriately.

Tip: Encourage your child to make eye contact with and greet their bus driver by name each morning. This promotes a respectful relationship and allows them to connect with their driver.

Consequences for breaking bus rules include seat moves and possible bus suspension. Please help us to promote the importance of bus safety with your child(ren) so that the bus can be an enjoyable experience for all of our students and bus drivers!

Dress Code

As we move into the school year, please take a moment to review the board approved dress code for students. It can be found here. Our dress code is enforced to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. If you have any questions after reviewing please do not hesitate to reach out.

Items of Note:

  • No hats/bandanas/hoods

  • No bare midriffs

  • No sunglasses indoors

  • No indecent material

Pick Up Patrol- Our Student Absence and Dismissal System

PickUp Patrol - USED FOR RECORDING ABSENCES and DISMISSAL Preferences

PickUp Patrol has been in effect for 2 years now and we are very happy with the positive feedback we have been receiving from the community regarding it's ease of use. . Please click here to review how to use the program to record absences.

Our secretaries are no longer checking phone messages for absences or changes in dismissal procedures. This information is now handled exclusively through the PickUp Patrol app.

All of our parents and guardians should have received a "Welcome" email with details on how to download the app and set up your account. If you have not received an email, please check your SPAM folder. If you can not find the Welcome email, please contact our school secretaries and ask for a new one to be resent.

If you have not downloaded the app or set up your account yet, please do so as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretaries, Mrs. Deanna Dargel or Mrs. Boomi Varathrajan.

Parent Pick Up Procedures:

Updated Parent Pick Up Procedures

When dropping your child off in the morning, please help them prepare for the drop off area by having all their items ready and readily accessible upon arrival in the drop off area. Parents and guardians should stay in their cars. We have staff who can help with doors and getting your child out of the vehicle safely. Additionally, please be patient as cars are unloading and wait for the line in front of you to move instead of trying to go around. We understand everyone's time is very valuable but the safety of a student or staff member is more important than a few seconds that you could save by cutting around the line. Thank you for your understanding and adherence to these procedures.
