Cucinella Weekly Wrap Up #4

Week of September 16, 2024

“Make each day your masterpiece.” – John Wooden

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already completed four weeks of the school year! In this short time, both students and staff have fully settled into their routines, and our school is buzzing with energy and excitement. The hallways are filled with vibrant student work and projects proudly displayed for all to see, and it’s truly inspiring to witness the school in full swing.

Our teachers have been diligently conducting benchmark assessments in reading and writing to better understand each student’s academic strengths and areas for growth. Now, as we move forward, the focus is shifting toward delivering high-quality instruction. With the foundation set, we are transitioning from the excitement of the year’s start into the heart of the curriculum. We're excited to see what the upcoming weeks will bring!

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our PTO for sponsoring Tuesday's "Red Day," when we had the pleasure of hosting Red Grammer! He delivered two incredible performances – one for PreK-2nd grade and another for 3rd-5th grade – where he reinforced our "Bucket Filling" initiative through lively and engaging songs from his collaboration with Carol McCloud, author of Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

In addition to the large performances, Red conducted smaller, more intimate "Informances" with individual grade levels throughout the building. These sessions gave students a unique opportunity to interact with Red up close, ask him questions about his life, profession, and music, and dive deeper into the themes of kindness and positivity. The entire day was filled with joyful singing, laughter, and valuable lessons on being bucket-fillers. We are so grateful to Red Grammer for spending the day with us and for sharing his uplifting message with our school community!

Speaking of Bucket Filling, we want to close out this week's Wrap Up by acknowledging our "Bucket Fillers" of the week. Each week students earn slips for their good deeds and are entered into a raffle to win prizes and acknowledgments from the school community. These students were caught demonstrating our core values and were recognized for their actions during our Friday Morning Announcements.

MAP Growth

MAP Testing

This week our 1st through 3rd grade students will participate in the NWEA's MAP assessments. Next week our 4th and 5th grade students will participate. The students will take two online assessments, one in ELA and one in Math. The results from these assessments allow teachers to gauge current academic levels and identify areas of strength and weakness. This then helps the teachers develop lessons that address the specific needs of their students.

Click this link for a quick video explaining what the MAP Growth assessment is all about. More information about NWEA and their assessments can be found here.

Please make sure to send your children to school with their headphones and wireless mouse (if preferred). We will have extra headphones and wired mice for anyone who needs one.

⭐New Maschio's Lunch Program⭐

Maschio's Allergy Management-

The following information is from the Maschio's Website https://maschiofood.com/food-allergy-management/

Maschio’s provides students who are identified with life-threatening food allergies a customized menu created by staff registered dietitians. Once the student’s physician submits a completed Maschio’s medical statement form, one of our registered dietitians will create a customized menu and provide the specific manufacturer ingredient labels for the parent/guardian to review and approve. Following parental/guardian approval, Maschio’s will put in place all necessary safeguards for that student’s meal including special meal handling procedures and cross-contamination prevention training with the cafeteria manager and cafeteria staff. Contact Lorraine Kunick, MPH, RDN lkunick@maschiofood.com for information regarding customized menus.

Bus Conduct🚌

It is important that we enforce Bus Safety Rules in order to create a safe and orderly environment and prevent accidents and injuries. Please reinforce the following bus safety rules with your child(ren):

1. Follow the directions of your driver the first time.

2. Stay seated in your assigned seat facing forward, belt on, with your personal belongings in your lap or at your feet.

3. Keep your arms, legs and head inside the window and out of the aisle.

4. Keep your bus safe & clean (leave food & drinks secured in your backpack).

5. Speak quietly (indoor voices), use technology appropriately.

Tip: Encourage your child to make eye contact with and greet their bus driver by name each morning. This promotes a respectful relationship and allows them to connect with their driver.

Consequences for breaking bus rules include seat moves and possible bus suspension. Please help us to promote the importance of bus safety with your child(ren) so that the bus can be an enjoyable experience for all of our students and bus drivers!

Dress Code

As we move into the school year, please take a moment to review the board approved dress code for students. It can be found here. Our dress code is enforced to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. If you have any questions after reviewing please do not hesitate to reach out.

Items of Note:

  • No hats/bandanas/hoods

  • No bare midriffs

  • No sunglasses indoors

  • No indecent material

Pick Up Patrol- Our Student Absence and Dismissal System

PickUp Patrol - USED FOR RECORDING ABSENCES and DISMISSAL Preferences

PickUp Patrol has been in effect for 2 years now and we are very happy with the positive feedback we have been receiving from the community regarding it's ease of use. . Please click here to review how to use the program to record absences.

Our secretaries are no longer checking phone messages for absences or changes in dismissal procedures. This information is now handled exclusively through the PickUp Patrol app.

All of our parents and guardians should have received a "Welcome" email with details on how to download the app and set up your account. If you have not received an email, please check your SPAM folder. If you can not find the Welcome email, please contact our school secretaries and ask for a new one to be resent.

If you have not downloaded the app or set up your account yet, please do so as soon as possible.

Click here for more information about Pickup Patrol

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretaries, Mrs. Deanna Dargel or Mrs. Boomi Varathrajan.

Parent Pick Up Procedures:

Updated Parent Pick Up Procedures

When dropping your child off in the morning, please help them prepare for the drop off area by having all their items ready and readily accessible upon arrival in the drop off area. Parents and guardians should stay in their cars. We have staff who can help with doors and getting your child out of the vehicle safely. Additionally, please be patient as cars are unloading and wait for the line in front of you to move instead of trying to go around. We understand everyone's time is very valuable but the safety of a student or staff member is more important than a few seconds that you could save by cutting around the line. Thank you for your understanding and adherence to these procedures.
