Benedict A. Cucinella School

Cucinella Weekly Wrap Up #5

Week of September 23, 2024

“ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. ANYTHING CAN BE.” – SHEL SILVERSTEIN

We’d like to congratulate our students, families, and staff on a successful first month of school! It's wonderful to see our students' behavior improving as they fully embrace our new "Bucket Filling" initiative—kindness and positivity are spreading throughout the school.

We’re also proud of our 1st-3rd graders for successfully completing their MAP assessments last week! These assessments provide valuable insights into each student’s academic progress, and our teachers will now be using the data to tailor their instruction to meet the individual needs of every child. By identifying strengths and areas for growth, teachers can adjust their lessons and offer more targeted support, ensuring that each student is set up for success as we move forward in the school year.

Looking ahead, we have some exciting events on the horizon: On Monday, we’ll be celebrating our first "Party with the Principals" for our Bucket Fillers of the Month of September. Also on Monday, we will have a Pajama Day as a reward for reaching a Fun Run fundraising incentive. And don't forget about our Bubble Dance Party with DJ Nellie later this week on Wednesday during student recess periods, another Fun Run fundraiser incentive.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,

Christopher Perruso

MAP Growth

MAP Testing

This week our 4th and 5th students will participate in the NWEA's MAP assessments. Next week The students will take two online assessments, one in ELA and one in Math. The results from these assessments allow teachers to gauge current academic levels and identify areas of strength and weakness. This then helps the teachers develop lessons that address the specific needs of their students.

Click this link for a quick video explaining what the MAP Growth assessment is all about. More information about NWEA and their assessments can be found here.

Please make sure to send your children to school with their headphones and wireless mouse (if preferred). We will have extra headphones and wired mice for anyone who needs one.

⭐New Maschio's Lunch Program⭐

Maschio's Allergy Management-

The following information is from the Maschio's Website https://maschiofood.com/food-allergy-management/

Maschio’s provides students who are identified with life-threatening food allergies a customized menu created by staff registered dietitians. Once the student’s physician submits a completed Maschio’s medical statement form, one of our registered dietitians will create a customized menu and provide the specific manufacturer ingredient labels for the parent/guardian to review and approve. Following parental/guardian approval, Maschio’s will put in place all necessary safeguards for that student’s meal including special meal handling procedures and cross-contamination prevention training with the cafeteria manager and cafeteria staff. Contact Lorraine Kunick, MPH, RDN lkunick@maschiofood.com for information regarding customized menus.

Dress Code

As we move into the school year, please take a moment to review the board approved dress code for students. It can be found here. Our dress code is enforced to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. If you have any questions after reviewing please do not hesitate to reach out.

Items of Note:

  • No hats/bandanas/hoods

  • No bare midriffs

  • No sunglasses indoors

  • No indecent material

Pick Up Patrol- Our Student Absence and Dismissal System

PickUp Patrol - USED FOR RECORDING ABSENCES and DISMISSAL Preferences

PickUp Patrol has been in effect for 2 years now and we are very happy with the positive feedback we have been receiving from the community regarding it's ease of use. . Please click here to review how to use the program to record absences.

Our secretaries are no longer checking phone messages for absences or changes in dismissal procedures. This information is now handled exclusively through the PickUp Patrol app.

All of our parents and guardians should have received a "Welcome" email with details on how to download the app and set up your account. If you have not received an email, please check your SPAM folder. If you can not find the Welcome email, please contact our school secretaries and ask for a new one to be resent.

If you have not downloaded the app or set up your account yet, please do so as soon as possible.

Click here for more information about Pickup Patrol

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretaries, Mrs. Deanna Dargel or Mrs. Boomi Varathrajan.

Parent Pick Up Procedures:

Updated Parent Pick Up Procedures

When dropping your child off in the morning, please help them prepare for the drop off area by having all their items ready and readily accessible upon arrival in the drop off area. Parents and guardians should stay in their cars. We have staff who can help with doors and getting your child out of the vehicle safely. Additionally, please be patient as cars are unloading and wait for the line in front of you to move instead of trying to go around. We understand everyone's time is very valuable but the safety of a student or staff member is more important than a few seconds that you could save by cutting around the line. Thank you for your understanding and adherence to these procedures.
