Cucinella Weekly Wrap Up #8

Week of October 14, 2024

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier

Week Eight:

This past Tuesday, we celebrated Spirit Day, and it was wonderful to see our students and staff showing off their Cucinella pride! The school was filled with Cucinella spirit gear and school colors, creating a sense of unity and excitement throughout the building. Thank you to everyone for participating and making it such a fun and spirited day!

On Wednesday, we celebrated Trout Day as representatives from the Pequest Trout Hatchery visited to deliver trout eggs to our 5th graders. This marks the start of an exciting year-long project where students will learn about the life cycle of trout and play a vital role in raising the eggs into young trout fry, which they will eventually release into the wild.

A special thank you to Mrs. Cross, Mrs. Leonard, Mrs. Van Houten, and Mr. Jones for coordinating this amazing program. It offers our students a unique hands-on experience and deepens their understanding of our local environment, connecting classroom learning to real-world ecology. We're thrilled to give our students the opportunity to engage with nature in such a meaningful way!

Thursday we had a fantastic Picture Day! Our students looked their best, and everything went smoothly thanks to the cooperation of our staff, students, and parent volunteers. Smiles were bright, outfits were sharp, and we can’t wait to see the finished photos. A special thank you to all our PTO parent volunteers who helped make sure our students looked their best before their pictures. We look forward to sharing these special memories with our families soon!

Friday, our First graders were treated to a visit from the Schooley's Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters shared valuable tips on how to stay safe in case of a fire, and our students were excited to learn about the important work they do to protect our community. After the classroom lesson on fire safety, our 1st graders had the exciting opportunity to head outside and explore a real firetruck! The firefighters showed the students all the equipment they use to keep us safe, giving them a hands-on look at their important work. The students were thrilled, and it was a fantastic way to bring the lesson to life. Thank you again to the Schooley's Mountain Volunteer Fire Department for such a memorable and educational experience, we truly appreciate their time and dedication to keeping us safe!

This upcoming week, we are focusing on school safety education in accordance with School Violence Awareness Week. Please join us in the many theme days we have planned for the week. (More information later in newsletter). Additionally, help us "Stuff the Bus" and bring in donations for the Long Valley Interfaith Food Pantry. We will be collecting donations up until Thursday, Oct. 24th. (More information later in newsletter).

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures:

Updated Parent Pick Up Procedures

To ensure the continued safety of our students and staff, we are making a few updates to our morning drop-off procedures. We kindly ask for your cooperation with the following guidelines:

Please remain in your car: Parents and guardians should stay inside their vehicles during drop-off to help keep the process moving smoothly.

Be prepared ahead of time: Have all items (backpacks, lunch bags, etc.) ready and accessible before arriving at the drop-off area.

Independent exit: If possible, encourage your child to open the door on their own and exit the vehicle from the passenger side, closest to the school, once you’ve pulled up to the furthest spot available.

Patience is appreciated: We understand mornings can be busy, but please wait for the cars in front of you to move rather than driving around. Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff, which is worth more than a few seconds saved.

Respect the Handicapped spaces: Please avoid parking in the Handicapped spots to drop off children. We want to ensure that all students enter the building safely, and we do not have a crosswalk or staff member to assist them across the drop-off lane.

We truly appreciate your understanding and support in following these procedures. Together, we can create a safer and smoother drop-off experience for everyone.

Dress Code

As we move into the school year, please take a moment to review the board approved dress code for students. It can be found here. Our dress code is enforced to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. If you have any questions after reviewing please do not hesitate to reach out.

Items of Note:

  • No hats/bandanas/hoods

  • No bare midriffs

  • No sunglasses indoors

  • No indecent material

Pick Up Patrol- Our Student Absence and Dismissal System

PickUp Patrol - USED FOR RECORDING ABSENCES and DISMISSAL Preferences

PickUp Patrol has been in effect for 2 years now and we are very happy with the positive feedback we have been receiving from the community regarding it's ease of use. . Please click here to review how to use the program to record absences.

Our secretaries are no longer checking phone messages for absences or changes in dismissal procedures. This information is now handled exclusively through the PickUp Patrol app.

All of our parents and guardians should have received a "Welcome" email with details on how to download the app and set up your account. If you have not received an email, please check your SPAM folder. If you can not find the Welcome email, please contact our school secretaries and ask for a new one to be resent.

If you have not downloaded the app or set up your account yet, please do so as soon as possible.

Click here for more information about Pickup Patrol

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretaries, Mrs. Deanna Dargel or Mrs. Boomi Varathrajan.
