FKS families,
Getting to school on time and staying for the entire day
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, it's important to remind our students and families about the value of arriving on time at 7:35 am (Students are marked tardy after 7:45) and staying for the full school day. Being present and punctual at school plays a key role in a student's academic success and overall development. According to the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), research consistently shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform better academically. In fact, students who miss more than 10% of school days—about 18 days in a school year—are significantly more likely to struggle with reading, math, and other subjects. This is also why after 18 days absent, a student is considered chronically absent and we are forced to consider retention and/or mandatory referral to the Municipal Court. The NJDOE reports that students who attend school consistently are more likely to show improved test scores and overall academic performance.
Arriving on time each day ensures that students are there for important lessons and activities, and staying until the end of the day allows them to fully engage in learning opportunities. Missing parts of the school day, even just a few minutes here and there, can add up over time and lead to gaps in knowledge and understanding. In addition to benefiting your child's individual progress, regular attendance is also critical to the overall performance of our school. In fact, attendance is a key factor in the rating of our school, as published in the New Jersey Report Card. The state evaluates how well schools are doing, and regular attendance is one of the indicators that affects our school’s rating. By prioritizing attendance, we not only help our students succeed but also contribute to the overall success and reputation of our school.
We encourage families to prioritize punctuality and regular attendance for the remainder of the school year. By working together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to finish the year strong and reach their full potential. Let’s make every day count!
On behalf of the FKS faculty we wish you all a safe and fun long weekend and for those who are celebrating, a Happy Easter.
Sincerely,
Your Principal, Dr. Christopher Marangon
Your Assistant Principal, Mr. John Winsted
